The initial and necessary stage for recycling to become more efficient is that of source separation, and it constitutes a responsibility and obligation for all of us. The separation of waste into distinct categories at the point where it is produced, as well as its placement in bins as required for each category, contributes significantly to its rational management.
When the materials enter the facilities of the management unit, the process of sorting and separating them into now-utilizable categories begins. Some of these include paper, cardboard, plastic water bottles and detergent bottles, plastic food packaging, bags and nylon, metals, iron, wood, etc. Subsequently, the materials separated by category are baled and sent for recycling to licensed final recipients with the purpose of producing new products.
The materials unsuitable for recycling that arise are defined as residue and are collected separately. Afterwards, they are forwarded for mechanical processing so that they may be directed to licensed facilities for energy recovery and to combustion units or cement industries as fuel material RDF (Refuse Derived Fuel).
